چکیده

The use of admission control and overload manage ment techniques in real time systems has been shown to result in improved system performance in terms of maximizing the value added to the system by those transactions committing on time in comparison to systems which do not employ such techniques Con tinuing with our research in hard deadline Real Time DataBase RTDB systems we investigate the chal lenges associated with soft deadline transactions and describe a number of admission control and overload management techniques as well as scheduling algo rithms appropriate for such systems

Concurrency Admission Control Management in ACCORD

We propose and evaluate admission control mechanisms for ACCORD, an Admission Control and Capacity Overload management Real-time Database framework|an architecture and a transaction model|for hard deadline RTDB systems. The system architecture consists of admission control and scheduling components which provide early noti cation of failure to submitted transactions that are deemed not valuable...

Scheduling Multi - Class Real - Time Transactions : A Performance Evaluation

than traditional real-time scheduling in the sense that certain aspects of transactions may not integrate well with real-time scheduling. This paper introduces a dynamic admission control and parametrable priority based scheduling algorithm called H/M/L. It is based on the transaction importance, an attribute given by the programmer. We consider a multi-class transaction workload consisting of ...

Value-cognizant Admission Control Strategies for Real-Time DBMS

We propose and evaluate an admission control paradigm for RTDBS, in which a transaction is submitted to the system as a pair of processes: a primary task, and a recovery block. The execution requirements of the primary task are not known a priori, whereas those of the recovery block are known a priori. Upon the submission of a transaction, an Admission Control Mechanism is employed to decide wh...

The Reduced Ceiling Protocol for Concurrency Control in Real-time Databases with Mixed Transactions

This paper proposes a real-time concurrency control protocol called Reduced Ceiling Protocol (RCP) for real-time database systems (RTDBS) consisting of hard and soft real-time transactions. The schedulability of hard real-time transactions can be improved by bounding the blocking time from soft real-time transactions. Different concurrency control strategies are proposed to resolve data conflic...

Locking Based Concurrency Control for Integrated Real-Time Database Systems

In many database applications, incoming transactions are a mixed load of conventional (non real-time) and real-time (typically soft and rm) transactions. In this environment, transactions can even be changed dynamically from non real-time to soft or rm, or from soft to rm deadline transactions according to their execution paths. In this paper we show how lock based approach can handle these sit...
